Here are links to sites I regularly use to book flights and recommend using to plan your travel mission.
TripAdvisor Love this – however don’t always be sucked in by reviews good or bad, I’ve been pleasantly surprised by places which have had bad reviews on here, remember everyone will have their own opinions and experiences. What I think is overlooked about this site maybe is that it is a really great search tool for booking flights and hotels. I’ve found flights on this site I could not find on any other flight search site, Expedia, opodo, skyscanner, included. For example I found flights with westjet from Gatwick to Toronto after they began transatlantic flights that did not show on any other search engines I looked at. The price comparison for hotels is good as well. Often you can book through tripadvisor itself and sometimes they will be cheaper than other search sites.
Expedia – Widely recognised as one of the best search engine based websites for hotels and flights, also has a good section with things to do where you can pre book tours and excursions at your destinations.
Opodo A great search engine based site with flights and hotels, often with the cheapest flights, skyscanner often refers you to this site to book your flights so worth going direct to first.
Ryanair & EasyJet– These two need no introduction. As much as people will complain about them, they are still amongst the most competitive price wise for travel around Europe. Extra costs for checked luggage are painful though. I always check their actual websites for prices as well as the price comparison sites as I have found differences in the past.
STA Travel – The leaders in student and gap year travel for years now! They specialise in tours, around the world trips and working abroad programs. They also have really good deals on flights and accommodation in general too. I recently found return flights to Hong Kong from London for £339. Definitely worth checking out!
Lastminute – Not just for last minute bookings, good deals can be found on flights and hotels whenever you are looking to travel. This sight has a few extras as well, you can book restaurants, theatre tickets and other attractions through this site.
Skyscanner A great site for booking and comparing flights, a large database with up to date prices and loads of operators. Especially good if you are booking one way flights, always search one way flights for your trips as well as return. Try using the widget on the right side of the page to search for your flights.
Norwegian Air – With fares one way to Bergen from Gatwick as low as £29.90 I just had to post this. What’s stopping you? Helsinki from £100 return in June anyone? Awesome!
Blue Air – an airline I had not heard of before – I have return flights to Larnaca, Cyprus booked with them in June, I have not flown with them before so I will update you further. However they could not be beaten on price.
Wizz Air – a no thrills budget airline along the same lines as ryanair and easyjet, but pretty much unbeatable for flights to central and eastern Europe.
wow air – New Icelandic based airline only formed on 2011. Part of a big push to promote Iceland as a stopover destination between Europe and the U.S.A/Canada. Destinations include Toronto, Montréal, Washington D.C, Boston, L.A, San Francisco. At the time of writing this one way flights to all of these destinations in June are coming in way below £200.
