The Croke Park – The perfect hotel for a special Dublin getaway!
Dublin was to be our city destination for our series of trips closer to our home in the UK, we had never been there before, I had only heard good things from anyone who had been. We wanted to do it with a bit of a twist though! We were limiting our visit to just 24 hours…what could we discover and learn about a city in this time, could we get a feel for a place in that amount of time? Check out my post on our time in Dublin to find out.
When setting out on planning these trips I wanted to try and stay in unique, different types of accommodation. In Dublin, we wanted to experience something a little luxurious, something a bit extra special. The Croke Park Hotel – Dublin definitely gave us this!
The Croke Park Hotel is part of the Doyle Collection, a collection of eight Irish family owned luxury and urban hotels located in Dublin, London, Bristol, Cork, and Washington DC. Through from the very moment of our arrival to the time of our departure we were made to feel special, treated like individuals, not just another customer, this was first class service.
When checking in we were provided with fresh hot towels, everything was explained to us, did we have any special requests…it was lovely. We were also very lucky to be visiting close to Christmas as the decorations were up and really made the hotel feel festive.
We were to be staying in a suite on the 4th floor which also gave us access with our room key to the executive lounge. When we entered our suite we found so many added extra touches, things which really were not needed, but again made us feel special and brought smiles to our faces, we were really excited discovering everything.
The bedroom had a king size and single bed along with a chaise Longue, even lying on the bed brought a smile to my face as I sank into the very very comfortable mattress. There was a flat screen T.V in the room and everything you would expect of a hotel of this standard…but it was the fact they had gone the extra mile which made our stay here stand out.
When we went into the separate living/dining area of the suite both our faces were lit up with smiles again, the room was furnished beautifully, modern but still retaining a traditional yet stylish feel. It was in here the excitement began to really kick in and we realised just how special our stay was going to be. There was a welcome card and bag of amazing chocolate coated dates. Then there was a gift bag filled with leaflets and information, maps, really useful interesting information. Also inside the bag though was a really thoughtful gift, my favourite gift of this type ever!
An Irish Whiskey collection from Kilbeggan Co Distilling, I love trying local food and drinks, products unique to the area or country I’m visiting and this was just perfect.
Inside this room there was also a writing desk with a Nespresso machine and other hot drink making facilities along with an Ipad dock.
Inside this room there were a stack of books to borrow in a cupboard under another flat screen T.V and some great coffee table books, one in particular caught my interest which was of photography of the Gaelic Games. Given the hotel is across the road from Croke Park (we could see the amazing sporting arena from our window) this was a nice little touch. Inside the gift bag there were also two keyrings with miniature hurling balls attached which are nice mementos.
Even the bathroom gave us that special feeling, a really nice size covered in marble with a huge mirror, filled with The White Company products which really are luxurious and top quality, everything again had been catered for, I couldn’t think of anything else I needed, it was all there!
There was a bath and spacious shower which was powerful (something I really love) and everything was spotless and shining bright, so welcoming, it is clear so much thought goes into every aspect of the accommodation and the result is just brilliant.
We went off to explore the executive lounge, another luxurious but homely space. Again to have access to this private exclusive area made us feel special, we were quickly realising how lucky we were to be staying at such a lovely hotel.
Stylish and comfortable furnishings make this lounge feel so inviting, it makes you want to spend time in here. A huge corner sofa, chairs in front of a nice electric fire and T.V. There are complimentary drinks in fridges along with tea and coffee making facilities, you can also choose to have a continental breakfast in here.
After a night exploring Temple Bar we returned to the hotel and had a great night sleep waking up fully refreshed and ready for a full day of discovering Dublin.
We had a coffee in our lounge and headed down for a great full breakfast which really set us up for the day ahead, again the service here was superb.
In the morning we also discovered the bar area which had one of the biggest projection T.V screens I have ever seen! I guess cementing this hotels place as the number one hotel for sporting events.
The location of the hotel is great, across the road from the legendary Croke Park Stadium, about a 25 minute walk to the city centre or 10 minutes by taxi and they are pretty much always available outside, if not reception staff were happy to organise one for us. Although not located in the very centre of Dublin we did not find this a problem at all. Leaving the hustle and bustle of the city to settle down for the night left us feeling more relaxed if anything and took nothing away from our stay.
We had one of the most fun times we have had of any city break in Dublin and staying at The Croke Park Hotel really added to our experience of this being a very special trip which we will remember forever. The website for the hotel is also modern and easy to navigate with some great information on there, bookings can also be made through the website.
The Croke Park can also be booked through TripAdvisor where you can also read reviews and see price comparisons.
Thanks again for taking the time to read, definitely check out the story of our 24 hours in Dublin and find out why it is such a cool place for a city break!
