Travelcar – The Great New Way of Hiring a Car Whilst Traveling!
We regularly hire cars whilst travelling, it gives you so much freedom and allows you to explore much further afield and take in so much more during a trip, especially if you are on a short break. So when I found out about Travelcar, a new way of hiring a car I was really excited to find out more about them. Travelcar is almost an AirBnb for the car hire world, a great alternative to the big car rental companies, and cheaper too.
The way that it works is that Travelcar offer people free parking at airports whilst they are away travelling then organise to rent their car out for them whilst they are away, fully insured. When these people return from their travels they pick their car up fully cleaned and get paid for hiring their car out as well. A great idea!
So we wanted to try Travelcar out and see if it really is a viable alternative to the big hire companies. We recently travelled to the French Riviera for a stay in glamorous Monaco, we would be flying in and out of Nice airport, around 40 minutes drive from our base in Monaco, The Columbus Hotel. There were some places which we wanted to stop off and explore along this spectacular coastline as well though, so hiring a car for this short break was the perfect way of taking as much in as possible.
We arranged our car hire with Travelcar which was really easy with great contact online throughout. We were given the contact details of the local operator at Nice airport and instructions on where to meet them with the car. We met them in front of the airport as arranged and went through the inspection of the car together. A great aspect of this car hire is the app which you download to your phone. During the inspection photographs are taken and uploaded to the app and then the same thing is done when the vehicle is returned. This gives a real element of transparency and added trust which sometimes can be missing through conventional car hire firms, and especially compared to local independent small car hire companies. I have had that nightmare experience when a car hire company tried to hold back money from my deposit for a scratch which clearly was already there! This process would hopefully rule this out.
Our vehicle was a new Renault Clio with just over 4000 km on the clock. It was completely spotless…like brand new! Perfect for what we needed as well, just the two of us with carry on luggage, easy to park and easy to navigate through the winding streets of the French Riviera and Monaco!
We stopped in an amazing medieval village called Eze on our way from Nice to Monaco. A village of arts, crafts and restaurants perched on top of a hill overlooking the beautiful coastline. This is where I decided that the riviera lifestyle was definitely for me!
We continued onto Monaco finding ourselves on the famous roads of the Formula One grand prix circuit, what an experience, driving on the roads I’d grown up watching so many legendary racing drivers take on. Monaco is incredible, yes there is the glamour, the yachts, the super cars, but we also found it to be a very friendly place with a chilled out relaxed vibe, we really enjoyed ourselves in the famous principality.
On our way back we stopped off to explore the sea front of Nice and enjoyed the sunset over the blue sea of the Cote d’Azur. A great way to finish our trip off!
Our experience with Travelcar was brilliant, smooth, uncomplicated, and reliable. A trustworthy alternative to the major car hire companies, a great idea and really useful for regular travellers and another way of bringing an extra bit of money in if you are leaving your car behind whilst travelling also giving you the convenience of airport parking for free.
Another reason to try Travelcar is price…a quick search for car hire 10 days ahead of the time of writing this article shows that a similar class of car through a major car hire company would cost you almost twice as much per day for a two day hire (from Nice airport)… £40.20 per day instead of £22.47.
That means extra money in your pocket for adventures!
Travelcar covers 40 countries with 300,000 parking spots and 500,000 users, and after our great experience with them I can only imagine that they will continue to grow.
Check out the Travelcar website to find out more about them and to book your car hire!
My Travel Mission received support from Travelcar on this trip but as always all opinions are my own. Travelcar really is a great alternative to consider when looking for car hire!
